How do you showcase the influence of grants and micro loans in third-world countries in an emotional way, when you lack the photography to support it? Illustration was the answer for the Global Greengrants 2013 Annual Report. The good that this organization does was difficult to adequately showcased with the low-quality snapshots taken in the field. I took the expressive faces of the people in these stories and illustrated them with charcoal, and drew their hopes and dreams for the future with vibrant acrylic inks and paints. This truly brought the stories to life. Along with hand-done typography, the report had an authentic, grassroots feel that emphasized the importance of the work being done on the ground.
